StainerShield® – Positive ID Through Effective Pre-Stainer Barcode Slide Labeling
The ID/Positive system features StainerShield slide labels for positive identification of slides. Using
StainerShield, lab technicians can quickly and easily print slide labels with text and barcodes on-demand,
then apply them to slides at the microtome station before the slides go through the stainer.
Barcode Identification of Slides at the Microtome Stations
In one simple printing step, lab technicians at the individual microtome stations can print StainerShield
slide labels that include lab and patient-specific information, in addition to block, cut and accession
numbers in both text and barcode format. The labels are then applied to the slides as they are produced,
assigning a unique identifier to the specimen that enables the slide to be tracked from cutting to staining,
check out, review, and archiving.
Eliminate Errors Caused by
Mis-identified Slides
A mis-identified slide can cause multiple problems for labs, including incorrect diagnoses and matching the
wrong specimen to the wrong patient. StainerShield slide labels eliminate many of the root causes of slide
identification errors, including:
- illegible handwriting
- mis-reading numbers or letters
- keystroke errors
- incorrect matching of labels to slides
Uniquely Designed for Lab Use
StainerShield slide labels are constructed from a unique and patented polymeric technology that is
specifically designed to withstand laboratory specimen staining and processing without the need for
special UV ink or an overlaminate flap. Once applied to the slide, the labels will resist a stainer’s
harsh reagents, solvents and stains without fading, degrading or separating from the slide. The text and barcodes printed on the label remain legible and produce successful scans, even after stainer processing.
On-Demand Thermal Printing Simplicity
StainerShield slide labels are printed using a standard desktop thermal barcode label printer. These small-footprint printers
fit perfectly in a crowded workstation, and enable the technician to print slide labels as tissue specimens
are cut.
The slide label printers can print patient and case-specific information in text and barcode format using data directly from your LIS. Scanning a cassette triggers the printer to print StainerShield slide labels, assuring the right slides are matched to the right specimen, positively identified.
