StainerShield Enables Labs to Achieve
True Workflow Efficiencies and Error Proofing

Enhancing effectiveness and eliminating costly errors are priorities for every laboratory.  More labs want to utilize bar code-based systems and technologies to improve processes, but many do not have a reliable means to identify and/or bar code cassette blocks and specimen slides.  The harsh chemicals and solvents of stainers and tissue processors can destroy a printed bar code or render the printed information unreadable. Some products that have tried to address this problem are either too expensive, unreliable or can not fit into an optimized lab workflow.

StainerShield breaks this barrier.

StainerShield is a family of products for the lab that offers a complete closed-loop system for bar code identification of tissue cassettes and slides. Stainershield is extremely reliable, cost-effective, and enables labs to implement true "one-off" processing of specimens by applying bar code identification to cassettes and slides on-demand, as they are produced.  The benefits are numerous, and they include:

Error-Proofing:
-no more costly errors due to misidentification of cassette blocks or specimen slides caused by illegible handwriting, mis-keying long accession numbers, or bar codes that won't scan.
-multiple points of error are eliminated as a scanned barcode replaces manual data entry.  Its faster and significantly more accurate and reliable.

Workflow Efficiencies:
-more specimens can be processed in the same amount of time and with current staffing levels.
-StainerShield supports "one-off" processing of specimens, a central component of "lean."
-StainerShield printers and imagers can be placed right at the grossing and cutting stations, supporting an optimized workflow.
-scanning a barcoded specimen at each step in the process makes it easy to track and locate individual specimens through grossing, processing, embedding, staining, checkout and archiving, and trace them back to their source.

StainerShield slide labels are patent-pending pressure-sensitive label that are specifically designed for pre-stainer labeling of tissue and specimen slides.  StainerShield labels are formulated to withstand repeated and extended exposures to harsh chemicals, solvents, and stains such as xylene, ethanol, and hematoxylin without degrading or separating from the slide.

StainerShield labels can be applied to slides as specimens are produced at the cutting station -- assigning a unique barcode identifier (ie. accession number, block number and cut number) to the slide that can then be tracked through your lab's entire process - start to finish.  Labeling tissue and specimen slides at the beginning of your lab's process means an end to the costly inefficiencies of mis-identified specimens, re-drawing samples and repeating tests.

The StainerShield Laser Imager for cassette blocks utilizes a low-power laser to image indelible, high-resolution text, linear bar codes and two dimensional bar codes on the cassette, assigning a unique barcode identifier to the cassette block that can be used for tracking and producing slides.

The StainerShield family of products also includes an automated slide label printer applicator, and a scan/print system.  See all the StainerShield products and solutions on the products page.

Bar code identification and tracking of specimens is a proven way for labs to dramatically reduce errors, streamline workflow, cut costs, become more efficient, and enhance patient safety.  General Data's StainerShield line of slide and cassette labeling and imaging solutions help labs achieve these goals reliably and effectively.
