CINCINNATI –
December 20, 2005 – General Data
Company, a leading provider of
specialized labeling and
identification products and
solutions, today introduced the
Personal ID™ FoamWrap
wristband. This new patient
identification wristband,
designed for infants, elderly
and patients with sensitive
skin, is comprised of a unique
hypoallergenic and latex-free
foam wristband and direct
thermal label combination. The
Personal ID™ FoamWrap
wristband allows hospitals to
utilize high-resolution text,
bar codes and patient photos for
positive identification of
patients with frail, delicate or
sensitive skin. |

Personal ID FoamWrap patient
identification wristbands can help
extend a healthcare provider’s
barcode-based patient identification
capabilities by providing
patient-friendly solutions for neonatal,
infant, pediatric and elderly patients.
Patient information, including text,
barcodes and patient photos, is printed
on the high-resolution direct thermal
pressure-sensitive label. The foam
wristband is then placed around the
patient’s wrist or ankle, and the label
is attached to the wristband.
Personal ID FoamWrap wristbands are
intended for short-term or outpatient
use.
“Our FoamWrap wristbands are ideal
replacements for ordinary patient
identification wristbands that can
irritate or damage a patient’s skin,
particularly newborns, infants, elderly,
or pediatrics,” said Peter Wenzel,
president of General Data. “We work with
several hospitals that have been
searching for an effective patient ID
solution for infants, children and
elderly patients that would not damage
or irritate their frail or sensitive
skin. The FoamWrap wristband is a direct
result of feedback from these hospitals.
These new wristbands ensure that
hospitals can use the latest barcode
patient identification technology for
these ‘special needs’ patients without
sacrificing quality, convenience or
comfort. The Personal ID FoamWrap
wristbands are easy to apply for
healthcare workers and safe for all
patients.”
Personal ID FoamWrap wristbands
are available in two versions; a
“hook-and-loop” closure and an adhesive
closure. The “hook-and-loop” closure is
attached to the wristband, and is
primarily used for infants and neonatal
patients. This wristband can be removed
and re-attached during medication
administration or bathing without
damaging the wristband. The adhesive
version, ideal for small children and
elderly patients, uses a unique
wraparound pressure-sensitive label that
adheres to the outside of the foam
wristband and then to itself for secure
closure.
“Barcode-based patient identification
systems using Personal ID wristbands
have been proven to dramatically improve
patient safety and reduce errors in
medication administration, transfusions,
specimen collection, point-of-care
testing and patient charging,” added
Wenzel. “We have been able to quickly
respond to the needs of our customers
with a growing line of Personal ID
solutions. Our wristbands have been
rigorously tested in multiple healthcare
environments, and they continue to be
the most durable and effective bands on
the market.”
