More Options For Durable Labels With Variable Data

Today's labels are being asked to do more. They need to look good, perform in demanding environments, provide machine-readable information, support traceability and incorporate unique data on individual labels or groups of labels.

At General Data, we're always investing in the technology that lets us deliver better labels faster for the industries and customers that depend on us. That's why we're excited to announce the installation of a new Domino K600i variable data printer on one of our presses.

The K600i joins our existing DICEweb full color variable data inkjet printer as part of a growing digital toolkit that lets us produce full-color, variable, and durable labels for just about any application — often without ever leaving the press. Together, these technologies give General Data more flexibility to produce durable labels for a wide range of applications—and to further combine traditional flexographic printing and advanced digital inkjet technologies to provide the best and most economical label solutions to our customers.

What the K600i Brings to the Press Room

The Domino K600i is a high-speed, UV-cured monochrome digital inkjet printer built specifically for variable data printing. Unlike our DICEweb full color variable data inkjet printer, the K600i is purpose-built to lay down crisp, monochrome variable data at speed — the kind of information that changes from label to label:

variable data printed on Domino
  • Variable data barcodes and 2D codes - linear barcodes, QR codes, and Data Matrix codes for track-and-trace, GS1 compliance, and inventory management
  • Sequential and random numbering - serial numbers, batch and lot codes, pin codes, and expiration/production dates
  • Alpha-numeric text - including microprint down to fine detail for security and anti-counterfeiting applications
  • Variable images and graphics - logos, icons, or marks that change label to label

The K600i is engineered to be a workhorse - it runs at 600 dpi print quality at speeds up to 650 feet per minute. Like the DICEweb, it integrates directly onto a flexo press rather than requiring a standalone operation. This means we can add variable data to labels in-line as part of a high-speed flexographic label production run, instead of as a separate offline step. Fewer touchpoints translate into greater efficiency, faster turnaround, reduced handling, and more cost-effective variable data labels.

The Domino K600I complements our DICEweb full color digital inkjet printer and expands our capabilities for producing variable data labels in both short and long runs. We can now combine high-impact color branding with fully variable data — unique barcodes, serial numbers, lot codes, graphics or personalized information — in a single, streamlined production run, whether it's for small or large quantities of labels.

This is especially valuable for regulatory labeling requirements, internal traceability programs, or serialized inventory, since we can build that variable data directly into the label design rather than requiring a secondary printing step.

Both the K600i and DICEweb use UV-curable inks, so we can now produce both short- and long-run variable data labels that are highly durable and suitable for harsh environment applications. UV-cured ink cures instantly under light rather than air-drying, producing a label that resists fading, moisture, abrasion, and chemical exposure right off the press - without the need for an overlaminate. That durability is critical whether the label is going on:

  • Industrial and chemical drums that need to survive harsh handling and BS5609-type exposure.
  • Machinery and equipment requiring make and model identification, manufacturer information, warnings, and serial numbers.
  • Food, beverage, and consumer goods packaging where traceability and shelf presence matter.
  • Logistics, work-in-process and finished goods that need reliable barcodes for scanning accuracy through the supply chain.
