Plex Android Support is Changing

If your company utilizes the Rockwell Automation Plex Smart Manufacturing platform, please note that starting with v2.19.0, the Plex Mobile app will require Android 10 or newer

Plex explains that, in order to leverage modern Android capabilities to support new devices, they need to upgrade their Android SDK Platform, which requires dropping support for Android OS versions 8 and 9.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you're on Android 10+: No action needed—you'll continue receiving all updates automatically
  • If you're on Android 8 or 9:
    • Your current app installation will continue working normally
    • v2.18.0 will be the final version available for your device (including any v2.18.x patch updates)
    • You won't be able to download v2.19.0 or later versions from Google Play

If you're on the Rockwell Automation Partner Portal, here is the link to the post [note: you must log in to view the post].

What to do?

If Android support for your current version is ending, you will likely need new devices. While the app might still function, the lack of security updates and potential compatibility issues with newer systems will make it increasingly risky and unreliable.
